Held annually at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, the Wimbledon Championships are the oldest and one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world. There is probably no better place to enjoy the atmosphere of the tournament than at The Ivy Café Wimbledon.

Located in the southwest of London, Wimbledon is globally renowned for its prestigious tennis tournament, but offers much more beyond the tennis courts. Tennis fans flock to the area every summer to witness top players compete on the iconic grass courts. Wimbledon is steeped in tradition. Players must adhere to a strict all-white dress code, and strawberries and cream are famously served to spectators. The tournament’s royal patronage adds to its prestige with members of the British royal family often attending.

undefinedWe had a pleasure to dine in the iconic Ivy Café Wimbledon over the weekend. The restaurant was an elegant and bustling place. The interior is beautifully designed with a blend of contemporary and classic elements featuring botanical and flower patterns, plush seating, rich fabrics, and tasteful artwork. The service at the Ivy Café is consistently praised for being professional and attentive.

undefinedThe menu features a mix of classic British cuisine and international flavours with options ranging from light bites and salads, to brunch, hearty mains and indulgent desserts.

undefinedHere are a few of our highlights:

  • Pan-Roasted Fillet of Salmon: This dish is a standout, featuring a perfectly cooked salmon fillet complemented by a pink peppercorn hollandaise sauce. The accompanying charred broccoli, lemon, and watercress add a fresh and vibrant touch, making it a well-balanced and flavourful option.
  • Scottish Smoked Haddock and Salmon Fishcake: Another excellent choice, this dish features a crispy fishcake made from smoked haddock and salmon, served with a poached free-range hen’s egg and a side of crushed peas. The combination of flavours and textures is delightful, and the presentation is top-notch.
  • Strawberries and Cream: A nod to the quintessential British summer treat, this dessert features Vicarage Farm strawberries with basil and pouring cream. The freshness of the strawberries, combined with the subtle hint of basil and the creamy richness, makes for a perfect end to a meal.
  • The Centre Court Melting Bombe: For a more decadent dessert, the Centre Court Melting Bombe is a must-try. This impressive dish features a white chocolate shell filled with cream and shortbread, which melts away when warm strawberry sauce is poured over it, revealing a delicious and indulgent centre.

undefinedThe drinks menu features a curated selection of wines, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages. We tried Strawberries & Cream cocktail with Pimm's No.1, Strawberry Puree, Apple Juice & White Chocolate Cream. There is also a thoughtful selection of teas and coffees for those looking to unwind with a hot beverage.

With its inviting atmosphere and service, and delicious food, The Ivy Café Wimbledon is a dining destination that should not be missed. It successfully balances the charm of a neighbourhood café with the sophistication of a high-end restaurant, making it a perfect choice for a memorable meal.
