With proof of existence as far back as the Iron Age, Liverpool was originally recognised all the way back in 1207, when King John gave the borough the Royal Charter, thanks to its proximity to the Irish Sea and potential as a maritime city. It wasn’t until the 18th century that Liverpool began to hit its stride, thanks to its bustling port, vital role in the Industrial Revolution and great transport links. Nowadays, the city’s makeup shows a clear reminder of the past, with Georgian architecture, the Royal Albert Dock, Liver Building, and more.
