What a wonderful Inn. We were hoping for an authentic small British inn and The Stag On The River absolutely ticked every box. The manager Matt was so friendly and helpful, felt like a cousin one hasn’t seen in ages. The room was built in the 17th century with exposed beams, slanted floors and lead windows. The bed was comfortable with lovely pillows and beddings. The ensuite was updated and the towels were huge and soft. We would have stayed a couple of nights here had they not been sold out. The breakfast was so nice. Everything prepared perfectly. If you can book a room now, just do it!

I gave it 3 stars, because the food saved the experience. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, and the food was good, but the service left much to be desired. We waited approximately 40 minutes for our food, and not even the starter (bread) arrived on time. To make matters worse, the table next to us ordered after us and received their food before ours. When we arrived, they offered us water, but never brought it. We also asked for a high chair for a child and had to request it twice, as the first time it was not brought, even though we waited around 30 minutes. It wasn’t until we asked about our food, after seeing that the table next to us had already been served, that they finally brought us the starter. To top it off, they didn’t offer us dessert; they just asked if we wanted to pay. Although the food was delicious and the place is nice, the experience was overshadowed by poor service. While the food could be a good reason to return, the bad service makes me not want to come back.

Fantastic place really peaceful setting. Roast dinner was superb. Staff were excellent. So far to date I would say this has been the best Sunday lunch over eaten. Puddings were naughty but nice. Would give 6 stars if I could.
