At Hotel du Vin, it’s always a food celebration in a very relaxed and easy-going setting. Now sit back, relax and enjoy a glorious Sunday Lunch your own pace. Divine.

Sunday Lunch always has an air of something special about it – whether it’s a family get-together, special celebration or simply an excuse to spoil yourself.

A British institution. Meats were traditionally roasted in front of a fire on a Sunday, dating back to the reign of King Henry VII. Since the 15th century, the royal bodyguards have been known as ‘Beefeaters’ because of their love of eating roast beef. In the 18th century the French started calling Englishmen ‘rosbifs’. Therefore it is only fitting that ‘rosbif ’ is the centrepiece of Hotel du Vin's perfect Sunday lunch. The roasts are served with all the trimmings, including proper Yorkshires

Hotel du Vin Newcastle is housed in a magnificently refurbished Edwardian building on the banks of the River Tyne, close to the city centre. Originally home to the Tyne Tees Steam Ship Company, the building's maritime past is visible - from ship ropes in the courtyard, to porthole windows.

Booked 1 night away for my birthday. Had an absolutely wonderful stay. The hotel left some little gifts in the room for my birthday and we got a voucher for 2 free cocktails aswel. Room was lovely. Location great. Nice distance to be quiet enough but only about 20 minutes to centre on foot and it's a lovely walk in along the front. Breakfast was also lovely. No complaints at all

Mixed experience here. The hotel and room were lovely and very comfortable, and the food I had from room service was delicious. There was a loud humming/draining sound coming from the ceiling which was preventing me from falling asleep, the night manager very kindly let me into another room to sleep there, and was very gracious in resolving the issue (the plumbing in the bathroom above). The reason I have given 2, not 4 stars, is that while I was halfway through eating breakfast, the bistro manager came with the card machine to try and charge me for breakfast, which was included in the room rate I had paid. I then had to sit there and go through the rigmarole of logging into booking.com to find the receipt, which made me download the app, all the while he was hovering over me while my hot breakfast (not cheap at £24!!) went cold. Lastly, housekeeping came into the room when I was preparing to get in the shower, having been told I had already checked out. For over £200 for one night including the dog* and what I spent in the bistro, I'm not impressed, and it's a shame my visit ended on a negative. I explained this when checking out and while they were apologetic, that was it. Unlikely to return here as a result. *while I very much appreciate hotels that allow dogs, 25 per night is a little excessive (never paid more than 10 anywhere else, for a 4kg dog) considering it is still a little awkward as you can't take them to breakfast but also can't leave them in the room. The bar staff helpfully kept an eye on her while I went to the buffet, but it wasn't ideal.

Wow what a wonderful Christmas meal we had here on Sunday 16th December. 18 of us we're booked in and what a magical experience it was. The food and service was exceptional. It surpassed our expectations and more. Could not fault a single thing. I cannot recommend enough. A big thank you to Hotel Du Vin and the staff that provided a first class experience from start to finish. Also a huge thank you to Shauna the events manager who was absolutely superb throughout the whole experience putting this together for us, Shauna was accomodating, polite and friendly and nothing was to much trouble, Shauna made sure everything was perfect and the communication from Shauna surpassed anything we've experienced from any other event managers at other establishments. Thanks once again!
