It is only not 5* because it was more expensive than a 1* Michelin restaurant I did the same day and £25 for a starter you know.. it was creative but £90 for the 3 courses not quite worth that much. Curry was one of the best I've had though

I have wanted to go to the Savoy for a very long time. I booked, I anticipated, and I went. On arrival things looked opulent and as I'd imagined. As we were directed to The River Restsursnt I could feel my excitement drop. Seemed a bit bland.. then we were seated at the back. I was positioned behind a column and couldn't see anything but watch a Chinese man opposite me eat his fish and chips. My friend was seated facing the lady at the next table. Felt too close, not well thought out. I wanted a view, I wanted to see the magic happen in the restaurant. I could have been anywhere, I was really underwhelmed and disappointed. The food however was another story. I went for the mackerel to start, with gooseberries, bit sharp for my taste but the mackerel was amazing. I followed with the mushroom risotto with truffle. Strong flavour, delicious, and then...sticky toffee pudding to die for. It was an experience, but overall I just felt a bit deflated.. I like to see things happen, watch the people, watch the staff, its all part of dining out.. I was stuck at the back with no view. Tables too close together. Staff friendly, but a bit stoic.. lighten up a little, the (french) man who took our payment was a delight, friendly, jovial, a delight. But was hoping for better.

Very nice place, we had super attentive staff. It did felt like they a bit short staffed for the busy hours on Sunday. We went there for Sunday roast and it was very very nice meal. Was a bit confusing that we had few different people asking us if we need anything else, and when we asked for horseradish from one person it basically never arrived to our table. But it’s just little remark I would say. Got nice little treat for my birthday as well which was a nice cherry in the cake for me :)
