It was very busy and we left our name on the list and spent nearly half an hour in the pub. The food is very good and the prices are reasonable. The beef tartar could be a little more elaborate in its presentation of spices and flavours, instead of just mixing the ready-made sauce in front of the guest.

Rather disappointing Sunday lunch. We were a table of 6, pre booked for 2.15pm Our spend per person includes wine and cocktails. The most disappointing discovery for us was the standard of the Sunday lunch… presented well and at a competitive price of £23.95… it failed to impress. The ‘half roast chicken’ was in fact 2 flattened chicken portions, which were a rather an ‘un-bird’ looking offering. Roast potatoes were frozen and had been prepared in Gordon’s favourite kitchen appliance - the fryer!!! Brussels sprouts… also frozen. Yorkshire puddings… quite possibly from frozen batter… These basics are essential to a good roast! Starters and desserts were lovely. Soho Ivy, you failed to deliver on this occasion - and we ate early, so you can’t use the end of the day excuse on this one!! Service from our waitress Leila was spot on but her coworkers were distracted, self obsessed and unprofessional at times. We had many opportunities to witness what was deemed, by staff, to be a little bit of messing around out of the gaze of the customers… in full view of the customers… total lack of self awareness and any degree of respect - one has to wonder what conditions/role modelling/leadership creates such a culture? We had to send items back when we witnessed them being badly prepared and unnecessarily handled prior to being brought to the table. Goodness only knows what goes on out of the view of the public! A really lovely part of our experience were the live entertainment - lovely addition to what was a really buzzing atmosphere. A recognised brand, a good reputation… but undeserved based on this experience.

We opted for the festive set menu for £60pp. All the dishes were cooked nicely and presented well. The service was really efficient and friendly. The food isn’t anything groundbreaking but it all tastes good.
