Traditional afternoon tea at The Anchor Bar, Chelsea. When we were in view of the hotel, it just reminded me of the Copthorne Hotel and it turns out its from the same group. Entering the place, it was very Chinese with red paper things like Asia but probably due to CNY. Anyway, had the afternoon tea which was a waste of money like the ones in Asia. The worst thing was the sandwiches which were so dry. You could run your fingers on the surface of the bread and get no resistance. The bread felt so dry and rough that it would not deform on touch like fresh bread. The classic scones were too crumbly and hard like American biscuits [the Southern style American ones], again they look and taste like the scones in Asia. The tea menu didn't quite align with me as it was too floral so the only choices were either black or green.

The place is beautiful, the people serving are very nice. What was questionable was the simplicity of the food; we had the brunch. The eggs Florentine was nice, nothing too refine, no extras (bread or potatoes, or fruits). I enjoyed the Mimosas, and the pancakes. It was the strict minimum. For the price charged, adding 12.5% for annuities, I was expecting a bit more.

My partner and I popped in for oysters & champagne on our anniversary and were so well looked after by Mario & the rest of the team. We felt absolutely spoiled and Mario truly made our day. We can’t wait to come back!
