The food was excellent. We had a range of dishes, including the lamb kofta, duck croquettes, gnocchi, trout, prawns, and triple-cooked chips. For dessert, we had the white chocolate mousse. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, the decor is amazing, and there was a live singer who played the piano. The staff were a bit hot and cold at times!

First time staying at The Halyard. Spotted that the attached restaurant had a small plates menu. Love small plates, so an immediate must visit. 🙌🏼 Visited the bar first. Nice space; Sunday evening so relatively quiet. Decent selection of lagers - tried the Baltic pils first; nice drink but in a festival pint glass. Short and fat. Feels wrong 😆 Good selection of different spaces to sit and friendly staff. Peroni thereafter - a tall glass. Moved to the restaurant, to the rear, for dinner. As I say, small plates menu. They say 2-3 per person. I’m always sceptical of such claims as I look at the menu and really want 4 or 6. They are right though, more than 3 would have been too much. Very rich food. Tasty. I’ve learnt to be guided by such recommendations 😸 Well done. Duck croquettes, crab cakes and a nduja scotch egg were the chosen ones. Weirdly, the scotch egg was my least favourite, a bit too much sauce. It’s all relative though, as all excellent. The croquettes were the standout - just two, but so very rich and unctuous. Beautiful flavours. Intriguing sauce with the crab cakes. Next time, I think I will swap the scotch egg for chicken. Dessert was a Liverpool tart. Sweet with a muscavado cream. Nice, but I must try the apple and cinnamon choux bun in future. Sold out today, alas. Overall an excellent dining experience - fantastic food, well presented and served in a nice space by engaging and friendly staff. Definitely recommended for a visit whether or not you’re staying in the hotel. A lovely addition to the area.

The service wasn't very good at all. Staff seemed disinterested, which meant it took a long time to get their attention. Despite ordering from the bar, a service charge was automatically applied with no explanation even though the food hadn't even arrived. Would not recommend
