4.0a month agoPopped into Toby carvery for some lunch with my sister, looking at the menu it was obvious we were having carvery, the place was packed only just got a table without having to wait. It was very loud and the queue was very long, we were waiting for about 15 minutes in this queue, I must point out it was school holidays. I had beef and turkey which was very nice, I'm not a lover of dry turkey or rare beef, and must say mine were neither, my sister had gammon, she loves salty gammon and unfortunately the gammon was not salty at all, so she was a little disappointed. I love vegetables and was a little shocked at how much choice I had, cauliflower cheese is a must, the roast potatoes in dripping were very nice, along with the norm, we did order 2 side dishes which to be honest wasn't that great, we got loaded roasties and loaded Mac and cheese, the roasties had bacon on them and the Mac and cheese has chicken balls on it, the Mac and cheese came straight from the carvery section and they just added the chicken ball, unfortunately the Mac and cheese was very dry, and I can only say the same for the loaded roasties. All in all I ate my meal and was very full once finished. We didn't get a pudding. We did learn about an app that Toby are doing, it basically gave us our drink free, bonus.

1.0in the last weekHad our family Christmas gathering here tonight which we regretted within 10 minutes of arriving. The bar queue was long and the bar service was very slow although there were many staff stood chatting around the bar area. It is a Sunday evening near Christmas and so I turned a blind eye as the staff may have been busy throughout the day. Chatting behind the bar and having no customer awareness when you are on public display is not good customer service. Look at it from the customers view. A few customers were getting annoyed in the queue. Surely, you’d sell more drinks if you had more staff serving. Then we went for food. I opted for beef and lamb. The portion of meat was embarrassing, luckily we could fill up with veg. £15 for not even a palm sized portion of meat. The roast potatoes were dry, overcooked and tasteless. I thought it is what it is and was looking forward to a nice gravy, the gravy was tasteless and runny and had a consistency of tea and coffee. The veg gravy was thicker but because there was no meat I wanted the taste of a meaty gravy which unfortunately didn’t happen. So with drinks I spent £53 for a main meal for two which I feel was overpriced for the quality we received. Our expectation was it would be a meal as Toby cook in bulk, but I wouldn’t even call it that.

5.05 months agoExcellent visit . Very welcoming staff . very good meal . Helpful waitress , when we found that the lamb was a bit gristly the waitress brought several more slices of lamb that was brilliant melt in the mouth meat Very attentive staff . Clean and tidy even when exceptionally busy
