I'd love to be able to let others know what it's like here, on a night out, but unfortunately I can't, and won't ever be in a position to comment on what it's like in this pub. Let me explain. A group of friends and I had been out in Newport, and after spending a couple of hours at the Castle Inn, decided we'd find a pub with music which was more to our liking. Someone suggested the Slug and Lettuce, so that's where we headed. We got to the door and were greeted by one of the door staff who looked at my trousers and said "They won't let you in with those bottoms on". I couldn't believe what I was hearing, as the trousers I had on bored no resemblance to tracksuit bottoms or jogging bottoms, but we're just light casual trousers (admittedly colourful,to match my t.shirt and shoes) but definitely not tracksuit bottoms or jogging bottoms). Anyway, after telling the doorman exactly what I thought of their dress code policy, we all went a couple of doors down the road and ended up at the Hogshead. Maybe it was a good thing that we didn't get in up the road, as the atmosphere at the Hogshead was really good, the music was excellent and the dj was brilliant. So, sorry Slug and Lettuce, but you've lost a prospective customer.

On this day, my wife and me just turned up without booking. We wanted to celebrate our 5th year's anniversary with cocktails and nice food. Service and the cocktails were nice and brilliant, the only negative point was the steak just a bit overcooked. I didn't make any problem with this, because I like that as well, I just gave a feedback for the manager personally. For this, we got an extra drinks even if we were happy with the food and the service as well. These guys know how to makes people more happier on the happy days. Well done!
