Brunch is a a hybrid of breakfast and lunch. Brunch is a portmanteau, a word that combines parts of two words to create a new meaning:

Breakfast: The beginning of the word "breakfast" is "br-"
Lunch: The ending of the word "lunch" is "-unch"

Who invented the term 'Brunch'

The word "brunch" originated in England in the late 19th century and became popular in the United States in the 1930s. 

Writer Guy Beringer first coined the phrase "brunch" in an article published in 1895.
