Great room (1006). Saved £250 😀 by swapping the booking from November to mid-January. Quirky set of corridors, lifts and stairs to reach to the room. Set inside the roof with small rooftop windows. Very quiet and comfortable. We had breakfast included. Clean, quiet and plenty of choice. Felt that the full English had sat on a hot plate for ages and the only fresh item was the poached egg. Black pudding was only cooked on one side and all very bland and lukewarm; disappointed. The bar is under the hotel as the building is set on a steep slope. This means the reception is at street level on the square. Odd door entrance added - must be to keep the weather out - from the grand front door. The unusual shaped interior of the hotel makes it tricky to find a social space to hang out. The bar had a pre-booked 21st birthday party which meant have the space was closed. Staff were friendly; good atmosphere and choice. Would stay again. Close to underground parking in the nearby shopping centre. Portrait gallery is next to the hotel.

Our first stay at this particular Malmaison and we were not disappointed. We were greeted by Billie on reception upon arrival for check-in and she also checked us out. She was so cheerful, friendly and polite. She was on duty whenever we entered/exited the hotel and was always acknowledged us in her charming manner. She is a real asset to the hotel. Our room was on the 7th floor and was beautiful, with everything you could wish for - including a Nespresso machine. Breakfast was excellent. The selection of food was extensive and the quality excellent. The hot food was cooked to order, which is a refreshing change from the hot buffet style breakfast that is usually available in most hotels. Hotel located in the heart of the city, so is in an excellent position. We would highly recommend staying at this hotel.

Fab place that could not be better located. I visited with my wife in December for a bit of Christmas shopping and this hotel is on the doorstep for the major shopping areas of Edinburgh. The check-in person was very helpful and managed to negotiate a room upgrade at a very reasonable price. My only complaint was that the bar was not open when I returned at about 11pm. It would have been nice to finish a long day with a lovely drink in the bar.
