My partner and I spent three wonderful days at Summer Lodge to celebrate her special birthday. The staff were consistently courteous, professional and friendly: we were received with a special birthday tea and a lovely welcoming message from the managers. Our room was perfect, the meals were delicious, the grounds are delightful and the location is ideal for exploring the glorious Hardy Country (incidentally, Thomas Hardy was an architect who designed a wing of Summer Lodge). We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will certainly return. Stephen Friar

Went many years ago for lunch so decided to revisit for afternoon tea whilst on holiday in the area. What can I say. Unquestionably the best afternoon tea I have ever had. Service is impeccable without being overbearing. Lovely peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Had a nice chat with the manager (sorry forgot his name). Strongly recommend.

We felt cold in the drawing room. And there was no atmosphere. Our afternoon tea itself was a little dissapointing. Only 3 finger sandwiches. One of which was cheese and a Branston type of pickle! The scones were lovely, but the cakes were very underwhelming. The little dessert glass held a coffee dessert. As not everyone likes coffee it seemed an odd choice? No spoons were provided to eat this dessert with. So we had to use our teaspoons. After this they were no longer suitable to stir our tea with. We had to ask for clean plates after eating the finger sandwiches, which had been served with a mustard. So not very nice to eat scones and cakes off after these had been finished. Also our tea went cold very quickly, so I am not sure it was freshly brewed? During our visit not once we're we asked if everything was OK. We had to try and attract the waiters attention to ask for clean plates and a fresh pot of tea. The waiter homself was very attentive to repeat guests that seemed to know him. But unfortunately not to us. We have taken afternoon tea in many establishments. Even at the Savoy in London. And I am sorry to say that todays experience was a bit of a let down. It was was such a shame as your hotel is beautiful. On entry our visit had held so much promise. Especially after receiving a lovely warm welcome from your receptionist. Unfortunately what was meant to be a treat on our break in Dorset, didn't feel like treat at all.
