In search of somewhere to go for a family meal we came across the Forest. I booked me and my family in with Sean who was very polite and helpful. Even a last minute time change wasn’t a problem and no hassle at all. Upon arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome. Being a Sunday we opted for the Sunday roast. I had the beef which was fantastic. Tender, full of flavour, seasoned potatoes, a good Yorkshire pudding and gravy to die for. Others got the chicken which also looked lovely. It was a nice relaxed family atmosphere. A special mention for Sean who seemed to be running things with great effect through delegation or his charming self. He ensured our glasses were always full without us having to flag down a waitress or waiter. It was just an all round pleasant experience. From the staff, the service, and the quality of food and drink. Certainly the best in the area for food and drink. We now have a solid place to go to for future family meals. Thank you Sean and Team.

It is sad that a pub that we enjoyed so much when we first visited back in 2017, I think, has gone downhill drastically considering it had recently undergone a refurbishment? We booked a return visit recently for four nights (visiting family) and on arrival did receive a warm welcome and were shown to our room. The room was on the ground floor next to the road it looked large and quite acceptable at 1st but on closer inspection the bathroom door was so warped it would not shut and to maintain privacy in the room we had to keep the blind on the window down as any passes by could clearly see into the room. The noise from the road was awful and if there was any soundproofing, it doesn’t work. Also noise coming from the next door room sounded as if they were about to come into our room, including the sounds of bathroom being used. When I went to report the problem with the bathroom door the evening manager told me she was completely unaware of an issue and would report it to the housekeeping in the morning. This clearly was not true as when we again complained in the morning to a different manager, after an awful night, she straightaway was aware of the bathroom door being unable to close as she had tried to close it herself previously. Her name I believe was Joanne and she was a redeeming feature of our stay as she was always helpful and attempted to accommodate any requests. We found the room was so bad we did request a change and she arranged the move to an upstairs room which turned out to be the same room we had had all those years ago when we had first visited. We did sleep much better in this room, no bothersome noise and mattress was much comfier than other. Still we found room facilities quite basic and due to non delivery of milk pods we had to ask for a small jug for tea and coffee in morning before we went to bed. We only did this once as it was a bit of a faff, especially if we got back after hours. The soap dispensers provided in bathroom for showering and washing hair, smelt pleasant but I believe were same product and left my hair with sticky feel. One of the towels was stained and not once was our room refreshed during stay. Food and drink is good in the pub but pricey and don’t bother asking for anything that isn’t on set breakfast menu as you’ll just be charged the cheapest option on menu no matter what it is. Such a shame. I hasten to add all the staff were lovely and my review is for higher management or owner to take on board.
